TERRE HAUTE TO HOST 2012 GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE FINALS
IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox announced today that Terre Haute has been chosen to host the 2012 IHSAA Girls Basketball State Finals. The IHSAA Executive Committee approved the decision on Thursday during its final meeting of the 2010-11 school year.

A one year agreement has been reached calling for the Hulman Center (capacity 10,200) to be the site of the 37th Annual IHSAA Girls Basketball State Finals and its four state championship games on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The multi-purpose facility has hosted many IHSAA and NCAA tournament events in past years and is the home of the Indiana State University basketball teams.

"The IHSAA is extremely pleased to award the hosting of the 2012 girls basketball state championships to the city of Terre Haute, Indiana State University and the Vigo County School Corporation,” said Cox. “The Association received three very competitive proposals and after considerable study and deliberation by the staff and Executive Committee, the decision was made to take the event to Terre Haute."

In addition to Terre Haute, the IHSAA received bids from Evansville and Fort Wayne, which had hosted the girls basketball state finals the last two years at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

This will be the second IHSAA state championship event in Terre Haute. The LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course has been the site of the boys and girls cross country state finals since 2004.

No Indianapolis venue – Conseco Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium or Butler University’s Hinkle Fieldhouse – is available for use by the IHSAA on next year’s date.
