Trojans Take Home 4A Softball Title
In a tense finale to the IHSAA Softball State Championships, Center Grove held off a stubborn Lake Central team to earn the class 4A Championship Trophy.

The Trojans built a steady lead over the first five frames, with senior Courtney Moriarty hitting her fourth home run of the season and class mates Boyer and Baker each crossing the plate as well.

Jeff Sherman’s Indians would not go away without a fight, though. Lake Central rallied in the sixth inning with three hits and two runs (both batted in by sophomore Maddie Blythe), cutting Center Grove’s lead down to one.

Not to be out done, Center Grove responded with their own rally in the top half of the final inning. A bases clearing triple by junior Mandy Dallas put the game out of reach.  Coach Russ Mulligan’s crew, who finished the season 29-2, ended the night with six runs on only eight hits to claim their sixth softball championship title in school history.

The Lake Central Indians, who made their 11th State Championship appearance, wrapped up their impressive season with a record of 28-6-1.

Center Grove’s Victoria Boyer named Mental Attitude Recipient
